Charlie R. Jessee graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 and a Master of Science degree in 1974 before attending the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. Charlie received his Juris Doctor in 1983 and began practicing law in Southwest Virginia. Prior to attending law school, Charlie worked for Westmoreland Coal Company and Island Creek Coal Company in upper management positions and the Commonwealth of Virginia for the Bureau of Industrial Hygiene as an Industrial Hygienist. After receiving his Juris Doctor, Charlie practiced law in Washington and Smyth counties and the City of Bristol primarily. His practice included bankruptcy, criminal, corporate, products liability, personal injury and social security disability. Charlie served as the President of the Washington County Bar Association in 2002. Charlie retired from practicing law in 2006. Charlie was appointed by the Office of the United States Trustee of the Department of Justice as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee in 2006. He served in this role until 2013 when he officially retired.

In July 1996, John was admitted to the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia and to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia. John became licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee by the Supreme Court in Tennessee in September 2001. He was admitted to the State of Tennessee Judicial Department Supreme Court and to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee in December 2001.
\nJohn began his legal career as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Russell County, Virginia and served approximately four years. In 2001, John joined the law firm of Jessee, Read & Howard, P.C. (f/k/a Jessee & Read, P.C.). John has a solid background in criminal law, traffic and DUI law, personal injury law, bankruptcy law, workers’ compensation law, corporation law, and social security law. John has served as a Past-President of the Washington County Bar Association and as Past-Treasurer of the Southwest Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association.

\nHeather began her legal career as an Attorney at Southwest Virginia Legal Aid before transferring to the Central Virginia Legal Aid Office in Charlottesville, VA. Heather then turned her focus from civil law to criminal law and began a new career path as an Assistant Public Defender in the City of Richmond, Virginia.
\nAfter learning criminal law from the defense perspective, she returned to her roots in Southwest Virginia where learned the prosecutorial side of criminal law while working as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Russell County and then a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in Washington County.
\nIn 2012, Heather joined the law firm of Jessee, Read & Howard, P.C. with a solid background in civil and criminal litigation. In addition to her law practice, Heather is an active member in the Community.
\nEdith is a native of Nova Scotia, Canada. She received her secretarial training at Kings Regional Vocation School in Kentville, Nova Scotia, graduating with a Certificate in Stenography. After graduation, she was employed for five years with a Certified Public Accounting firm in Nova Scotia. After meeting and marrying her husband, Bob, she relocated to Virginia. Edith has more than 30 years of experience working as a secretary in the legal field. She joined Jessee & Read, P.C. in 2003 and is our transcriptionist and secretary.

\nIn her spare time, Samantha enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt. She is a fur mommy to 3 awesome dogs. She loves photography and Laurel and Hardy movies. Samantha is a proud member of Heavens Saints Motorcycle Ministry and attends Glade Spring Church of God.
